VR GAME CONCEPT (2021)

MIND THE GAP.

A single-player VR escape room experience set on a deserted subway train, where the player hears a mysterious voice. They must solve puzzles and complete tasks within a time limit to reach the end of the subway and uncover the truth of what happened, where they are and who the mysterious figure is.

Initial Ideas

This project was inspired by my experience riding the London Underground and the mystery of its tunnels. I've always found escape rooms intriguing, so I thought it would be great to merge this concept with the subway and an immersive story in virtual reality. The goal is to create a fun, engaging, and thought-provoking challenge.

Game Design.

You are on a subway headed for disaster when a blackout occurs, leaving you alone with the grim reaper. They offer to test you with puzzles to entertain themselves, and if you succeed, you can escape the train and come back to life.

The gameplay focuses on completing these tests quickly. You can grab, pull, throw, and move objects to solve puzzles like levers, doors, and pressure pads while moving through the train carriages. The notes and sketches on the left show my ideas for the level design, gameplay, and story direction.

Multiple-Choice Object PLacement

The first task asks the user to listen to the voice, pick an object that fits its description, and place it on the pad by the door to open and continue.

Time-Restrained Button sequence

In a set time, users must press four chess piece symbols in order from strongest to weakest. If they don’t press them before time runs out, they must restart.

Continously moving object obstacle

The player will see a series of moving suitcases on the train that shift in different ways. They must determine the right order to move, throw, and push them aside.

Time-Restrained Level Pull Sequence

They will find ten handrails above the seats and, with time running out, must quickly move through the carriage and pull each one down to reach the driver's door at the end.

Storyboarding.

You are on a subway about to crash when suddenly the lights go out. Alone, you encounter the grim reaper, who offers you a chance to escape by solving puzzles for their amusement.

The main gameplay involves completing these tests within a time limit. You can grab, pull, throw, and move objects to solve puzzles like levers, doors, and pressure pads while following a straight path down the train carriages.
